Kruidnoten is Dutch for “gingerbread button”. Cute! A diminutive version of the Belgian speculoos cookies, they're traditionally eaten around the Christmas holidays. They definitely taste festive, thanks to the warming spiced dough, which is shaped into little coins and baked to crispy perfection. Historians reckon kruidnoten have been around since around the 1700s, but who knows? All we can say for sure is that once you’ve tasted these ones, they won’t be around for very long.
