Halloren O’s Stracciatella

This dark chocolate bonbon has a stracciatella center—one of the most popular Italian gelato flavors, it’s a supremely smooth and creamy fudge-like core with a decadent, melt-in-your-mouth layer of dark chocolate on top. Straciatella, which derives from the Italian word ‘little shred,’ began as a soup into which beaten egg was drizzled, causing a ribbon-like appearance. Inspired, Italians began to drizzle gelato with molten chocolate, causing it to harden and appear as streaks of dark brown in the vanilla icecream, giving stracciatella its distinctive appearance. Another thing that is distinctive about the appearance of these bonbons is that they look like buttons—this is an homage to the history of the town of Halle, which houses ancient salt springs and where Halloren is based.
