Tatsan Turkish Delight

Lemon, Orange, and Rose Flavored Turkish Delight

(6)
3.5 oz

Turkish Delight, or lokum in Turkish, is a chewy candy made from starch, sugar, and various flavorings, including citrus, rose, and nuts. Early versions of the confection were made using honey and molasses for sweetness, and contained flour, rather than starch. The invention of Turkish Delight as we know it today is attributed to 18th century confectioner Haci Bekir who, in 1777, opened a confectionery and set out to create a softer, more refined candy. He introduced the use of sugar and starch in the candy, which resulted in a smoother, chewier texture. Bekir’s creation was so popular that Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II appointed him to the position of royal confectioner. The position remained in Bekir’s family until 1920. Their family-owned confection shop, called Haci Bekir, is still open in Istanbul, making it Türkiye’s longest running business and one of the 100 oldest businesses in the world.

Stupendously sweet – rather more so than other Turkish delight/lokum I’ve had, but I’m not an expert. The texture is great, super chewy. Rose is my favorite!

Our whole family loved these, especially the rose ones. I’ve had other turkish delights before (mostly with nuts) and these were simpler, but very nice.

These are so good. I probably would have eaten the entire package in one sitting if I didn’t know the sugar content – it’s crazy! But yummy.

Melissa, Houston, TX

The others were okay, but I just couldn’t handle the strong rose flavor. It coated my mouth and lingered even after brushing my teeth. And the thick sugar coating meant I couldn’t tell the difference.

Sarah, ALEXANDRIA, MN

Overall we did not like these. The flavors seemed very artificial and overpowering and the sugar coating was excessive

I love Turkish Delight, but this is my least favorite brand. It’s much too sweet, and no matter what flavor you choose, it has an overwhelmingly strong, artificial honey-like flavor.
